  1. Available online: 12 October 1844 – 30 August 1865 (1035 issues) Not all issues of this newspaper are in Papers Past. The New Zealand Spectator was the first Wellington newspaper to last for any length of time. It began weekly publication in October 1844, several weeks after the demise of the New Zealand Gazette, Wellington’s and New Zealand’s first newspaper. This fulltext collection is a part of Papers Past from the National Library of New Zealand.
