Cosa: Conferenza sull’eredità e le ricadute dell’11 settembre, organizzata da Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, National September 11 Memorial & Museum e New York University

Quando e dove: New York, 15-16 giugno 2017.

Deadline: 1 aprile 2017

Tema e obiettivi: capire come l’evento dell’11 settembre continua a plasmare il passato, il presente e il futuro non solo degli USA ma del mondo. La citazione di Faulkner “la storia non è era, la storia è” si combina con quella di Redfield, “una nuova storia inizia qui in questo ground zero del tempo.” Alcuni topic sono quindi:

  • Memory and memorialization
  • Sacred and contested spaces
  • “America in the world”
  • The conflicts in the Middle East and South Asia
  • Acts of terror around the globe since 9/11
  • The changing face of terrorism
  • The changing face of warfare and nation-building
  • Intelligence, surveillance and counter-terrorism
  • Para-legality, states of exception and rendition
  • Nationalism, identity, “self “and “other”
  • Human rights, civil liberties and conceptions of “freedom”
  • Shifts in cultural production and representation since 9/11
  • The media, social media and the “image” of terror
  • The academy, museums and cultural institutions
  • The return of religion
  • The refugee crisis
  • Discussions of time and space; home and homeland

Sujet et objectifs: comprendre comment cet évènement ponctuel continue de former et informer l’histoire, le présent et le futur. En partant de la citation de Faulkner, “l’histoire n’est pas était, l’histoire est”, et en ajoutant celle de Redfield “une nouvelle histoire commence ici à ce nouveau ground zero de l’histoire”, où arrive-t-on? Certains aspects analysés peuvent être:

Comment se candidater: envoyer l’abstract (300 mots) à 2017conference@911memorial.org en incluant le CV. Il ya des fonds limités pour alléger les frais de voyage, et pour certaines interventions il y a aussi la possibilité de publication suite à la conférence.
